The Emerging Consensus...

The emerging concensus on the Phillies is that they've improved, but that their biggest question mark is their new rotation. Click here for some conventional wisdom. Oddly, I've noticed that the Phillies are getting a lot of ink suggesting that they, and not the Mets, are the team to beat in the N.L. East. We'll see how all of this plays out with spring training, the real sign that winter is coming to an end, around the corner.

When Sports Illustrated publishes their baseball preview issue - the definative word on the new season - I'll wager $5 that the Phillies will top the charts in the N.L. East.

Comments:
Sure. The Mets pitching doesn't stack up to the Phillies (though the offense is similar.) I mean, sure the Mets have Pedro and Glavine, but Pedro has to sit out if he has a hang nail. Then there's El Past His Prime Duque and Unproven Maine. And Perez and Park? Ha!

The Marlins' staff might have their arms fall off. The Braves are just mediocre. The Nationals don't even have a pitching staff.

I think it's the Phillies to lose.

As a Mets fan and blogger, I think you guys are being optimistic, but I think you have some reason for your optimism. I think, and the consensus in the Mets community is that there will be a real race this year between the Mets and the Phillies. If it happens, it will be the first real division or pennant race between the two teams in the 45 years they've both been in existence. Please have a look at what I say about the upcoming rivalry between the Mets and the Phillies on my blog at metsfanbook.com/blog/.
